register
for Tiger Band (MUS 4250).  Girls in college (including transfer

must have a 2.0 grade point average in order to audition for the line.
Previous dance training is highly recommended.  Most of the girls on
the
line were members of their high school dance lines and/or cheerleader
squads.  All girls selected for the line are expected to maintain their
audition date weight and or that which is prescribed after acceptance
on the
line.  Weigh–ins are held periodically during the fall semester and are
under the direct supervision of the Associate Director of Bands.
Attendance
at a Spring and/or Summer workshop and preseason camp is required of
all
applicants who are selected.  The dates for these events will be
announced
in the official notification letter.

SCHOLARSHIPS:
All members of the Tiger Marching Band, including those selected for
the
Golden Girls, will receive a Music Activity Award of $640 paid in the
fall
semester.

NUMBER TO BE SELECTED:
To be determined at the audition.  The line varies from 14–18 members.

AUDITION DRESS:
Black leotard and flesh–colored tights, flat heel jazz shoes/boots
(preferably) or tennis shoes.  Make–up and hair style should be worn in
a
fashion which accents and flatters facial characteristics (i.e.:
Pageant
style).

TAPE/SOUNDEQUIPMENT:
Each applicant is to bring an audio cassette tape of music (applicant
own
choosing) which will be used for the original routine.  Tapes will be
handed
to the tryout official as the applicant number is called.  All
recording
equipment will be provided by the Band Department for the auditions.
Ample
sound will be provided.  (Any applicant requiring CD to audio cassette
transfer should call the Band Department at (225) 578–2384 for
assistance
prior to the audition date.  The Band Department will not splice music
together.)

REQUIREMENTS:

Part I: One prepared original routine (to audio cassette).  This
routine
will have a time limit of one minute and thirty seconds (130).  Timing
will
begin with the first note of music on tape.  Each applicant will
perform
individually when the applicant number is called.  Applicants audition
in
numerical order.

Part II: On–the–spot routine.  An on–the–spot routine will be taught to
30
finalists who will be given one hour to learn the routine.  This will
then
be performed by each applicant individually and in groups as required.
After learning the on–the–spot routine, applicants choose a new
placement
order in which to perform the on–the–spot routine.  The applicant
original
number does not change. Following this portion of the audition, scores
from
the on–the–spot routine will be tabulated and the members of next years
LSU
Golden Girls will be selected.  The results will be posted on the Band
Office door approximately one hour after the conclusion of the
auditions.
